Surtain, one of the highest rated recruits to ever come through Alabama, joined the Crimson Tide in 2018 as the sixth ranked player in the nation, per the 247Sports composite ranking. Instantly, he found his way onto the field, starting 12 games in his first season. As just a freshman, Surtain finished the season with 37 tackles and seven passes defended, good enough for All-SEC Freshman Team honors.

In 2019, Surtain's sophomore year, he started every game, finishing the season with 42 total tackles and eight pass deflections, also adding two interceptions and three forced fumbles.

In Surtain's final, and most memorable, season, the junior cornerback helped guide a dominant Alabama defense to a national championship and was named a consensus All-American, SEC Defensive Player of the Year and received All-SEC First Team honors. A finalist for the Bednarik, Lott, Nagurski and Thorpe awards, Surtain had an incredible final season for Alabama, totaling 37 tackles, 3.5 of which were for a loss, and adding nine pass breakups and a pick six.

Surtain has an NFL legacy to live up to, following in his father's footsteps, but he appears to be the closest to a sure thing a prospect can get. The Alabama product is projected to be taken very highly in the upcoming NFL Draft, and whatever team he ends up with is getting a generational talent.

Happy Birthday Patrick!
