A potentially high-impact severe weather event is on the way, and now is the time to ensure that you and your family are ready.

It's crucial that you have a way to receive weather watches, warnings, and information. One of the best ways to stay informed is to tune in to our radio station. We will provide you with forecast details throughout this severe weather event, and we will have live coverage with our Staff Weather Expert Alex Puckett if a tornado warning is issued in our listening area.

Most cell phones are now able to send push notifications when a weather warning is issued where you are, and while this technology is helpful, it's imperative that you have more than one way to receive warnings in real-time.

NOAA Weather Radios are a great resource, especially when storms are forecast in the overnight hours.

Take time today to go over your severe weather plan. Here are some helpful questions to ask as you prep this afternoon:

  • Do you have a room in which you can take shelter in your home or office? This should be an interior room or hallway without windows.
  • If you do not have a safe room in your house or office, do you know where your nearest storm shelter is?
  • Is your phone charged?
  • Do you have necessary supplies like a flashlight, battery powered radio, bottled water, bicycle helmets, blankets, or candles and matches?
  • Do you have batteries for flashlights, radios, etc?
  • Have you planned for your pets to join you in your safe room?

I've recently started using an external battery. You can use these batteries to charge your phone and other devices, and they're invaluable when you're experiencing a power outage.
