It has been a pretty cold weekend in Alabama. As we wake up across the state, we are in the low 30s. If you are heading out today, make sure you bundle up.

There are snow and sleet potentials across parts of Central Alabama for late tonight into early Monday morning. Possible near or below freezing temperatures will be across the Northwestern counties such as Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker, and Winston.

In areas with near or below freezing temperatures, you could see some light snowfall. Then as temperatures rise, it could transition into rain.  Those areas in the temperature range between 34 to 36 degrees could experience rain with a wintry mix.

The current timeline is between Midnight and Noon for most of our coverage. The heightened time frame for the wintry mix could be from 3 am and 6 am.

The National Weather Service Birmingham has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook to cover a “quick-hitting winter storm will affect parts of Central Alabama Sunday night after midnight through Monday morning. The best chance of accumulating snow will be in portions of Marion, Winston, Walker, Fayette, and Lamar Counties. At this time, it appears snow accumulations will be less than one half of an inch.”

I’ll be honest; ice scares me. So, I like to always recommend that you take extra caution with wet roads in areas near or below freezing temperatures. Just one slick spot on the road could cause some significant issues for you while driving. Take caution when traveling over bridges and overpasses.
