Marvel is creating a new TV universe — at Hulu this time, instead of Netflix.

Marvel.com brings us the news that four new interconnected animated series are headed to the streaming service soon. After each series premieres, all the characters will be “forced to team up in order to save the world and certain parts of the Universe in Marvel’s The Offenders.”

The individual members (and individual series) include Hit Monkey, “the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld,” by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (Blades of Glory), and Tigra & Dazzler, about “two woke Super Heroes and best friends,” from writers  Erica Rivinoja and Chelsea Handler. There’s also an intriguing series starring M.O.D.O.K., the Marvel super-villain who’s basically a giant head in a chair. But the creative team sounds awesome:

In “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,” M.O.D.O.K, an egomaniacal Super Villain with a really big head and a really little body, struggles to maintain control of his evil organization and his demanding family. “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.” comes from writers Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt, with Blum, Oswalt and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

And finally, Howard the Duck, the beloved cult hero of comics and film, will get an animated series from Kevin Smith:

Trapped in a world he never made, America’s favorite fighting fowl Howard the Duck hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu, in “Marvel’s Howard the Duck.” “Marvel’s Howard the Duck” comes from writers Kevin Smith and Dave Willis, with Smith, Willis, and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

Here was Smith’s tweet about the news:

To my knowledge, these heroes (and villains) have never teamed up as “The Offenders” before. The only Marvel team with that name I can think of was a bunch of bad guys led by the Red Hulk who teamed up to fight the Defenders (hence the offenders) around 2010. That team was created by Jeph Loeb, who’s since become the head of Marvel Television, and who is executive producing all these new animated series. Surely that’s one big coincidence.

It’s also interesting that these shows are going to Hulu, rather than Disney’s new Disney+ streaming service that’s expected to launch later this year. Either way, a Patton Oswalt M.O.D.O.K. series sounds like precisely my jam.
