Nate Oats and Alabama seem to be the favorites to land former 5-star Nimari Burnett. Burnett has entered the transfer portal after one season with Texas Tech. The 6-foot-4 guard would add to a dynamic back-court to pair up with JD Davison who is also a 5-star in the 2021 class.

Burnett saw limited minutes at time with Texas Tech, as he had to compete with other guards like Mac McClung and Jamarius Burton who were both transfers. Burnett saw the writing on the wall after only playing 20 minutes four times this past year. Burnett averaged just 5.3 points per game in his limited action.

Burnett was ranked 22nd overall in the 2020 class according to ESPN. If the Tide somehow manage to keep Jahvon Quinerly they could have three former 5-stars in their back-court. Quinerly was of course named MVP in the SEC Tournament in Nashville. Ever since then he has been great, so if they keep him around I expect the Tide to be SEC favorites again.

Burnett would add tremendous depth for the Tide next season. He may not start right away with Davison and Quinerly in the mix, but the way Alabama likes to rotate their lineup he could see playing time. If Quinerly does enter the NBA Draft after this season, then the Burnett transfer could ultimately be huge.

The transfer has not been announced officially, but the word is Burnett has the Alabama Crimson Tide as his favorites. Expect news to break soon within the following days for Burnett's decision on where he will play next year.
