Food Network’s ‘Great Food Truck Race’ Filming in Tuscaloosa on Memorial Day Weekend
The growing food truck scene in Tuscaloosa will receive some national attention this weekend. The Food Network's popular 'Great Food Truck Race' is in town and filming for the upcoming season of the show.
Five food trucks began filming on Sunday in front of Government Plaza with host and chef Tyler Florence. The show consists of cooking challenges related to the local cuisine, and it appears the first dish will be a pecan dessert.
Tuscaloosa food truck Local Roots also shared a couple pictures on Instagram and tagged the competing trucks if you want to follow their progress and see their dishes.
On the show, each food truck has a set amount of time to prepare and sell their dish during each challenge. Using an allotted amount of money and relying on social media to help market their business, the team that raises the least amount of money during a stop gets eliminated. The winning team has received money and/or their own food truck to help being a business.
Keep an eye out for the trucks around Tuscaloosa the next couple of days as they set up in popular areas of town to try and drive the most business. You'll have the chance to try some unique food items and might even wind up on television.
