Faurecia Seating, an international automotive supplier, will close its plant in Tuscaloosa's Airport Industrial Park and 166 employees will lose their jobs in March, according to a notice filed with the Alabama Department of Commerce Friday.

The Commerce Department updated its WARN list to reflect the pending closure on January 31st. The posting of the notice is required by the 1988 Worker Adjustment and Retaining Notification Act, which mandates that employers to provide at least two months notice before large-scale layoffs or plant closures.

Faurecia operated two plants in Tuscaloosa County -- an interior seating plant in Cottondale that supplied Mercedes Benz and an systems plant in the Tuscaloosa County Airport Industrial Park that made instrumental panels and other interior products for other automotive manufacturers. The company has struggled in recent years, though, and the Cottondale plant closed last year after layoffs in 2015 and April 2019.

Now, the Tuscaloosa plant will also close with cuts beginning on March 20th, 2020 and completed in June.

EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story said it was the Cottondale plant that was closing, not the Tuscaloosa plant. The Cottondale plant closed in 2019. It is the interior systems plant in the Airport Industrial Park that will begin closing in March. We regret the error and are happy to set the record straight.
