Eddie Conyers Honored by Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
Longtime Alabama football practice official Eddie Conyers is the recipient of the 2022 Frank "Pig" House Award.
According to the official ASHOF press release, "The Frank 'Pig' House Award is given to someone who has performed outstanding service to sports in Alabama, and whom the Board of Directors feels worthy of special recognition. The award is named after the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame’s first Chairman of the Board who was instrumental in the founding of the Hall of Fame." The recipient is selected by the Board of Directors of the ASHOF.
Conyers, an Alabama native, has worked with the Crimson Tide for 59 years, after being hired by coach Paul "Bear" Bryant in 1962 to be a practice official. He continues to hold that position at the age of 93.
The UA alumni is originally from Montgomery, Ala., but moved to Tuscaloosa during his childhood and graduated from high school in the area as well. He served in the US Navy for four years; then, graduated from UA in 1954 with a B.S. in Commerce, working for the local Allen and Jemison Company during his career.
The 54th Annual Induction Banquet and Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the Birmingham Ballroom of the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel.
