Does Tuscaloosa Need a Drive-In Movie Theater?
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey's "Safer at Home" order is now in effect, and all entertainment venues throughout the state remain closed through at least May 15th. I know we have to do what we can to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus, but knowing I can't go to the movies is a total bummer.
Wouldn't it be great if Tuscaloosa had a drive-in movie theater? If we had a drive-in theater, we'd still be able to socially distance while watching movies. A drive-in theater would be great even if we weren't in the midst of a pandemic. I would love to be able to roll up, stay in my car, and check out a new release.
I am a sucker for everything related to Mid-Century Modernism, so you can bet your you-know-what I pine for the nostalgia of a drive-in theater. How cool would it be to roll up in a classic convertible with a Danny Zuko-looking daddy by your side?
Tuscaloosa does't have a drive-in, but there is one not too far from town. The Blue Moon Drive-In is about an hour-and-a-half drive from Tuscaloosa, so maybe it's worth a weekend road trip until T-Town can get its own.
