Distilleries Help With Hand Sanitizer Supply

As we all deal with COVID-19 pandemic, it really has opened our eyes to new ways to exist in our daily lives. It’s been hard. Some items are still in high demand, like hand sanitizer for citizens and for the health care industry. According to US News, “Distilleries around the nation are increasingly switching up their operations and using their supplies of high-proof alcohol to provide much-needed hand sanitizer during the coronavirus outbreak.” Also, the prices for necessities has risen has well, due to the hoarding that has taken place. However, a unique opportunity has arisen for distilleries to assist in the production of hand sanitizer. In the state of Alabama, Birmingham's Dread River Distilling company has been helping out. According, to ABC 33 40, John Cubelic, Co-founder of Dread River said that "Just 36 hours ago we were making small bottles of hand sanitizer to give out to people. Now we plan to make it on a large scale for hospitals and corporations. It's taken us by surprise.” Kudos to Dread River Distilling for taking on this new task at their distillery and helping the community. According to the New York Times, “many distillery owners said they were proud to be stepping in to fill a national need during a time of crisis and didn’t see hand sanitizer as a potential source of profit.”
