DeVonta Smith is already making an impression on some of the veterans in the Eagles locker room as the team wrapped up rookie minicamp earlier this week. Philadelphia traded up two spots to select Smith with the tenth overall pick in last month's NFL draft.

Slay met with the media this week and spoke about the concerns surrounding Smith's frame. "What's my take on Smith's size? I ain't worried," said Eagles cornerback Darius Slay. "Worked with him the other day a little bit, talking to him about a little ball. He's headed in the right direction. He knows what he's talking about, he knows how to win 1-on-1 matchups, and that's what we need from our receiving corps right now. I think he'll win a lot of 1-on-1 matchups. I'm not going to be shocked about it. Y'all might be shocked about it."

As a senior, Smith reeled in 117 receptions for 1,856 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns, and became the first wide receiver since 1991 to win the Heisman trophy. Smith leaves Tuscaloosa as the school's all-time leader in receptions (235), the SEC's all-time leader in receiving yards (3,965) and his 46 touchdowns are the most by a Power 5 receiver in FBS history.

Smith talked to reporters about reuniting with former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. "Just come in here and be the best version of me," said Smith. "Continue being me. Do the things that got me here and don't change it up. It still hasn't hit me yet, I feel like when I was a recruit. I've known Jalen since I was a recruit. He recruiting me to come to Alabama so I mean from then, the connection was there, I'm excited."

Smith also spoke about the importance of him and Hurts continuing to build their connection on the field. “It can only help so much,” Smith said. “We have to continue building that (chemistry). Just because we had that connection in college, doesn’t mean it’s the same now. We both have grown as players, and we both have things we’ve added to our game, so we have to build from that (relationship) and get better now.”

The Eagles will hold organized team activities May 25-27, June 2-4 and June 14-17.
