Here is Everything You Need to Do on a Destin, Florida Vacation
I love the beach. It is totally relaxing. Beach adventures for me include turning off my phone. I know, right. Is that even possible? Our main goal of beach weekends is, of course, the beach, pool, quality time with each other, and relaxation.
I’ve been to Destin, Florida, several times. It has lots to offer. Don’t tell my South Florida family, but I think the Destin area and the Alabama Gulf Coast have some of the best beaches ever. The sand, the things to do close by, and great restaurants make for a great long weekend.
This how we work any long beach weekend, and it works. We do breakfast and lunch at the rental home and dinner out every night. Everyone involved has a food packing list. Then once we get to the beach, not much time has to be spent at the stores.
Let’s talk beach outings. There is nothing like the beautiful water of Destin. To me, the sands are like sugar. According to the City of Destin, the public beaches are “June White Decker Beach Park, Norreigo Point Beach Park, Shore at Crystal Beach Park, Henderson Beach, and James Lee Park.”
A must-stop is Henderson Beach State Park. It is also a great picture-taking beach too. I like going to this State Park because it has restroom facilities, shower stations, and wheelchair access. Also, there are tons of things to do, like biking, camping, playground, and so much more. You can spend the entire day at this location. Click here for fees and protocols.
If you like the party vibe, then Crab Island is a must. Let’s just say it is a massive party that floats. The sandbar is on the north side of the Destin Bridge. Here is the catch, it’s only accessible by boat. There are tons of boat rental spots, or you can take an excursion boat. Click here for more details.
Dinner outings have been at the Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, Destin Commons, Village of Baytown Wharf, and the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. Lots to choose from at those locations, and they are fun too. Also, there is great shopping.
My favorite restaurant is close to Destin is in Santa Rosa Beach, Stinky’s Fish Camp. I highly recommend you go early because there could be a wait. Everything on the menu is incredible, and it’s a whole vibe. I always start things off with the Oyster Shooters with PBR beer. (I will not share this with anyone, get your own, lol). For the table, great apps to share are the Crawfish “mac” and Boudin bites and Unca Duke’s BBQ shrimp. For dinner, I typically get the Stinky’s Stew. It’s the best of everything, shrimp, mussels, fish, and more. Always get a few sides for the group like a tropical fruit salad; it’s clutch. If you have room or order it to go, the bread pudding is absolutely delicious.
On the day we leave, that’s when we hit the Silver Sands Premium Outlets. We put everyone on a time limit of three hours (if we don’t, we will never get home.) When done, we meet at the car, grab a quick bite to eat, and then head back to Tuscaloosa.
Where to stay? I have found an indulgent Destin private home that offers the best in everything. Very indulgent! Oh, the views are worth it. Amazing! Look below or click here to head to the Airbnb rental information.
