Derrick Henry’s masterful performance for the Tennessee Titans in 2020 has earned him the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Every year at the NFL Honors ceremony, the league awards the most outstanding offensive player this prestigious award. Henry’s accomplishments in 2020 make him a no-brainer as the winner.

The former Alabama standout totaled 2,027 rushing yards for the fifth highest single-season total ever recorded in the NFL. In addition to that total, Henry acquired 17 touchdowns, making him the only NFL player to ever record stats that high in both categories in the same season.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God. I also want to thank all my teammates for their hard work, and all of you,” Henry said during the NFL Honors Ceremony. “ I want to thank everyone in the Titans organization. You gave me a chance and the opportunity at my dream, so thankful so grateful for this opportunity. Yulee stand up, thank you all again, God bless.”

Much like his days at Alabama, the Texans used Henry as a workhorse giving him a league-high 378 carries for an average of 5.4 yards a carry. His rushing contributions were a huge reason the Titans were able to secure the title of AFC South champions in 2020.

The 6-3, 247 pound back earned 32 votes for the award, compared to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who earned five a piece. In addition to being named OPOY, Henry also owns the NFL rushing title two years running, and was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Year.
