Dallas Turner Named 247Sports True Freshman of the Week
Freshman linebacker Dallas Turner showed flashes on Saturday of being the next great pass rusher at the University of Alabama. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native registered five total tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and three quarterback pressures during the Crimson Tide's 20-14 win over the LSU Tigers. His performance earned him 247Sports True Freshman of the Week honors.
"I went up to him at the end of the game and I told him how proud I am of him," said Will Anderson. "Every day he comes to practice, he works hard. He watches film all the time. He asks questions, he wants to learn. Football is the most important thing to him. I'm so proud of him. He's stepping up, taking a big role when we have people go down. That's all I can say. He loves football and he's hungry."
Turner, a five-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting cycle was ranked as the No. 1 weakside defensive end and No. 9 overall player. With injuries to Chris Allen and Drew Sanders, Turner was propelled into the starting lineup against Texas A&M and has given the Alabama faithful another young pass rusher to be excited about. On the season, Turner has tallied 16 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks.
"He's a physical guy," said Christian Harris. "He's smart and I can see how he's been working since summer. When guys went down, he stepped up and took ownership of his role. He's doing a great job right now, and we are going to get better."
Alabama is currently ranked 11th in total defense.
