Since the outside is opening back up, now is a great time to explore what the South has to offer.  I adore long weekend trips (no more than four days) because it’s just enough time to get some great meals in, visit unique locations, and make new friends.

For any of my long weekend getaways, there are some must-visit but with any destination. However, there is one rule. I MUST always try something new. Different cuisines, mechanical bull riding, white water rafting, and more. Here are some cool spots to check out when you are in the “Big D.”

Museums

Dallas has a great selection of museums like the African American Museum, Crow Museum of Asian Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Contemporary Museum, and more. If you only have time to visit one museum, I highly recommend the Dallas Museum of Art; it’s my favorite.

The Dallas Museum of Art is in Downtown Dallas and is one of the largest museums in the world. My friends have to put me on a time limit when I go; otherwise, I will be there when it opens until closing. The diversity in its exhibitions is incredible.

Attractions

Dallas has something for everyone, from sports to live music. I have many favorite spots, but top-ranking for me is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, taking in a Dallas Cowboys Football or Dallas Mavericks Game, the Dallas World Aquarium, and so much more.

I love support amazing women in history. You can tour the Juanita Craft Civil Rights House by appointment. I haven’t done this visit yet, but it is for sure on my to-do list.

Make time to check out the John F. Kennedy Memorial and the grassy knoll. This place is truly amazing in the evening hours.

A must-visit is the Reunion Tower Geo-Deck. Perfect spot for panoramic views of Dallas and its incredible skyline. It is a specular spot for that stunning selfie.

Restaurants

Remember, they do it big in Texas. I always recommend talking with locals about the best places to eat. I like going where the locals go. Great finds are Ferris Wheelers Backyard & BBQ, Lockhart Smokehouse, Lawry’s – The Prime Rib, Dallas Fish Market, Turkey Leg Paradise, Sandwich Hag, Hello Dumpling, and more. My favorite is just outside of Dallas and worth the 20-minute drive.

I dream about Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. Trust me on this. This place is so good. You will think your Grandmother was in the kitchen. It’s family-style, so be sure to go hungry. It’s in downtown Carrollton which is just 20 minutes outside of Dallas. Totally worth it!

Shopping

There are so many venues that offer the best in shopping in Dallas. You got the West Village, Northpark Center, Galleria Dallas, to name a few. Also, if you love outlet shopping, then the Grand Prairie Premium outlets are for you.

Dallas is a short flight and packed with fun for all different scenarios. My suggestion is to plan ahead.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
