Confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Tuscaloosa County eclipsed 1,000 yesterday and the state as a whole added 850 confirmed cases in the largest single-day gain since monitoring began in March.

There have now been 1,070 cases confirmed in Tuscaloosa County, where 23 people have died with the virus.

Statewide, the Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 22,474 cases of the coronavirus and 750 people have died.

Almost 280,000 people have been tested in the state, and 13,508 confirmed cases are presumed to have recovered, according to the ADPH.

The latest information from the DCH Health System shows 64 hospitalized patients are confirmed to have COVID-19, and another 56 are listed as "persons under investigation," who show symptoms similar to the virus.

27 of the confirmed cases are in the intensive care unit, and 11 are on a ventilator.

Statewide, 647 people were hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19.
