The city of Tuscaloosa is restricting access to government buildings and canceling events as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the area and dozens of municipal employees are quarantining or isolating at home.

A city spokesperson said Monday evening that effective immediately, City Hall will be closed to the public until January 4th, 2021.

All business with the city will be conducted online, over the phone, through the mail or using an on-site dropbox on the top floor of the Intermodal Facility Parking Deck in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Meetings of the city council will be conducted virtually and live-streamed to the public.

The city's municipal court will also be closed to the public effective next Monday, December 14th, and cases will be deferred until after January 4th.

Both the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum and the Gateway in Alberta will be closed to the public from until January 4th.

The Monday announcement noted that these closures only apply to City of Tuscaloosa buildings and event spaces, not to facilities operated by PARA, Tuscaloosa City Schools or the Tuscaloosa Transit Authority.

The measures also include an extension of the closure of Holidays on the River, which will remain shuttered until at least December 17th. No new events may be booked at the Tuscaloosa River Market until after January 4th.
