The Birmingham City Council has unanimously approved a "Shelter in Place" ordinance that will remain in effect through April 3rd.

The new ordinance was approved as a means of encouraging residents to stay at home during the COVID-19 outbreak. There are now 91 confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus in Jefferson County alone.

The ordinance only allows Birmingham residents to leave their homes to complete essential tasks such as purchasing food, medicine, or a doctor's visit. The "Shelter in Place" ordinance will remain in effect through April 3rd.
