Sing it with me. “He's making a list, He's checking it twice, He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice, Santa Claus is coming to town.”

The countdown is on to Christmas in West Alabama. I’m hoping that the COVID-19 pandemic has not stolen any of your holiday cheer. A great way to lift your spirits is to think about the spirit of Christmas through children.

Here is a great way to get the kids in the festive spirit. It’s the Christmas at Barnes Presented by the YMCA of Tuscaloosa. This festive event occurs on Saturday, December 12th, at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA, 2939 18th Street in Tuscaloosa.

It sounds like so much holiday fun. There will be a Breakfast with Santa, where you can “enjoy breakfast, pics with Santa, letters to Santa, and more.” That takes place from 9 am until 11 am. Also, there will be a Children’s Holiday Market from 9 am to 6 pm. Parents, this is where you can “give your children the thrill of picking out their gifts for family and friends. Only $5-$10 needed to shop.”

I remember the children’s holiday markets growing up. I loved them. You were able to get nice gifts for my family. I just remember my parents being very excited to get their gifts.

For me, the holiday season was filled with family and fun. I have fond memories of taking evening strolls with my parents after dinner to look at the neighborhood's Christmas lights. I would get a handful of gifts. I remember getting Hello Kitty perfume and being beside myself.  My, how times have changed.
