The organization was founded by the Elizabeth Baptist Church, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Church members who are involved with healthcare started the Bright Future Health Interest Group in 2019. The main objective is to expose students to careers in healthcare because “5% of physicians currently practicing medicine in the US are African American.” There are also similar racial disparities in other careers in healthcare as well.
