From lakes and rivers to hiking trails to fantastic golf courses, Birmingham provides plenty of options for adventure-seekers, and a major website has ranked the city among the most underrated and affordable in the U.S.

Yahoo! Travel just published its list of places to travel this summer based on cost and how well-known the destination is to tourists. Based on that, Yahoo! identifies Birmingham as one of the 10 Underrated Adventure Destinations You Need to Visit This Summer.

Here's how they describe the Magic City:

With more green space per capita than any other city in the U.S., Birmingham is an unlikely outdoor recreation spot just waiting to be discovered. Hiking, biking, golfing, and fishing top the list of popular outdoor activities, while nearby parks and preserves are just waiting to be explored. Check out the zip lines in Red Mountain Park, fish in what has been called “the bass capital of the world” and tee off on the third longest golf course on earth—those are just some of the adventures waiting in Birmingham.

Birmingham is one of just two southern cities to make the list along with Chattanooga, Tennessee.

This isn't even the first national recognition the city's received in the past month. Zagat, one of the most-trusted travel guides, called Birmingham the top up-and-coming food city in the country. On top of that honor, June also brought the state's first world championship boxing match to Bartow Arena and began the process for restarting the UAB football program.
