Alabama Basketball is off to a hot start in league play, going 5-0 in the SEC while beating teams like Florida, Tennessee and now, Kentucky. The Tide showed out in Lexington Tuesday night, defeating the Wildcats 85-65 and solidifying their spot as the No. 1 team in the SEC. While the Tide rolled all night, two key players went down with injuries.

Senior Herb Jones injured his hand early against Kentucky after a collision with Jacob Toppin and came out of the game with 10:57 left in the first half. Jones, in his just eight minutes on the court, managed to put up eight points and add two assists and a rebound. The Tide continued to roll once Jones exited the game and went into halftime with a 12-point lead.

Just eight minutes into the second half, grad transfer Jordan Bruner appeared to get tangled up with Kentucky defender Olivier Sarr and injured his knee, leaving him hobbling on the court while he waited for an official timeout. Bruner, prior to his exit, in his 20 minutes of play tallied eight points, two rebounds and two assists.

Both players were taken to Birmingham Thursday morning for further evaluation of their injuries. Nate Oats, on JOX94.5 Thursday morning, confirmed the two players are being evaluated by Dr. James Andrews and indicated they would both be missing some playing time. No timetable on their injuries has been provided, nor has the severity of the injuries been revealed.

Jones, a fourth-year leader for Alabama, is a crucial piece of what Oats has tried to bring to the program with his incredibly high motor. While Bruner is a newer face to the team, he has been an excellent addition to an already potent offense. The Tide will have to make up a lot of production with these two players not being on the court, meaning players like senior Alex Reese and junior James Rojas will have to step up big time.

Alabama (10-3, 5-0) moves back home next to Coleman Coliseum to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (10-2, 2-2) on Jan 16.
