Alabama softball's Bailey Hemphill was one of 605 women nominated for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award, the organization announced yesterday.

The Lafayette, Louisiana, native was one of 21 athletes from the SEC to be nominated for the award. She is also the only SEC softball player to be nominated and becomes Alabama's first nomination since Haylie McCleney was nominated back in 2016.

"We are so proud of Bailey and all of her accomplishments," Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy said in a press release. "She is a very great nominee for this very prestigious award."

In her time with the Crimson Tide, Hemphill has become one of the more decorated players in program history. She's amassed top-five marks in home runs (50), RBIs (183), slugging percentage (.709) and on-base percentage (.504). During the shortened season, Hemphill was tied for the lead in home runs (2) and was tied for second with a .513 on-base percentage.

In March, Hemphill along with six other seniors, expressed interest in playing one more season with the Crimson Tide after the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As it stands, Hemphill remains 10 home runs off of the school record held by Kelly Kretschman, who tallied 60 home runs from 1998-2001.

Each conference from all three NCAA divisions will select up to two athletes from their conferences and then an NCAA selection committee will narrow the list down to 30, 10 and then a winner, which will be announced in the fall.
