A local man was shot and killed in the front yard of a public housing complex last night. (Saturday, 3/10).

Mulove Deshavon Williams, 25, of Tuscaloosa suffered numerous gunshot wounds at Hay Court Apartments, (which are located in West Tuscaloosa just past Stillman College off Culver Road). According to Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit assistant commander Capt. Kip Hart, Williams died at the scene. On Sunday morning, investigators formally charged Jessie Cleveland Knox, 29, with the murder of Williams.

Captain Hart told the press, “Investigators have learned that Williams and other family members were involved in an argument with people that Knox knew.”

Also charged in the incident was Edward "Trey" Womack, 24, on a count of reckless endangerment, after interjecting himself into the altercation. Hart said, “Based on witness statements, Womack interjected himself into the argument,” Hart said. “Womack pulled a gun and discharged a round. Shots were then fired from Williams’ side. Knox then started shooting toward Williams and struck him.”

As Womack was led from the scene he reportedly shouted out, “Y’all shot at me first!”

Witnesses told authorities that they heard more than 12 gunshots during the confrontation.

Knox is currently being in the Tuscaloosa County Jail  with bond set at $150,00. Womack’s bond is set at $9,000.

This marks the 3rd Homicide in Tuscaloosa County this year.
