Amanda Shires Plans New Album, ‘To the Sunset’
Singer-songwriter and fiddle phenom Amanda Shires has announced the release of a new album, To the Sunset. It will be her fifth studio album.
Early in 2018, Shires teased fans with a glimpse of her work at the legendary RCA Studio A, where she created her upcoming new disc with Grammy Awards-winning producer Dave Cobb (who also plays bass on the album) and Matt Ross-Spang. To the Sunset is due out on Aug. 3, via Silver Knife / Thirty Tigers.
To the Sunset, per a press release, finds Shires tackling personal and social issues on its fearless tracks. Songs include "Mirror, Mirror," which touches on self-esteem, and “Wasn’t I Paying Attention?” which delves into mental illness and addiction. Shires' husband, Jason Isbell, as well as Cobb, Peter Levin and Jerry Pentecost are special guests on the record.
To the Sunset follows Shires' 2016 solo release, My Piece of Land. The Texas native also plays with her Isbell, as part of his band, the 400 Unit (and he plays with her as well). Isbell and company released the Grammys-nominated album The Nashville Sound in 2017.
Shires was named Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2017 Americana Music Awards; she has also worked and performed with Devotchka, Justin Townes Earle and Chris Isaak, among others. Shires and Isbell most recently joined John Prine for a track on his album The Tree of Forgiveness.
Further details about To the Sunset, including a track listing, have yet to be announced.
