The Alabama Crimson Tide has been recruiting at an elite level since the hiring of Nick Saban in 2007. In particular Alabama has been specifically blessed with high-level talent at the running back position.

New Orleans Saints and former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Alvin Kamara discussed his time in Tuscaloosa and how absurd the collection of talent was while he was in the program.

Derrick Henry was a 5-star prospect, Kamara was a 4-star prospect, Altee Tenpenny 4-star prospect and Tyren Jones was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2013, crowding the Crimson Tide backfield and limiting opportunities to showcase their talent.

The four tailbacks came to Tuscaloosa with junior Jalston Fowler, sophomores T.J. Yeldon, Kenyan Drake and Dee Hart having already established themselves on the roster.

"At the time I was looking at it, I said 'Man this is where the best running backs go'. In that year, 2013 - I'm just talking about the history of Bama for running backs, that's where the best running backs go," said Kamara. "2013, the best running backs in my class are going there, I was like, 'Shoot, I'm about to go and I'm about to show why I'm the best running back too.''

Kamara suffered a knee injury  at Alabama and had surgery forcing him to redshirt in his only season in Tuscaloosa. Facing a crowded backfield that included five NFL running backs, the Georgia state championship winning running opted to transfer to junior college.

He took advantage of his only season at Hutchinson Community College rushing for 1,211 yards and 18 touchdowns and earning a scholarship to the University of Tennessee.

Kamara is now a four-time Pro-Bowler for the New Orleans Saints and recently signed a contract extension to stay with the Saints.
