The National Weather Service in Birmingham noted on Facebook that “Wednesday is the day you need to prepare for. Confidence is increasing in a significant severe weather event across parts of the SE, including portions of Central AL.”

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist commented that the “Thunderstorms could begin over West Alabama during the afternoon hours... but for much of the state the core severe weather comes Wednesday evening and Wednesday night... into the pre-dawn hours Thursday.”

I want to stress further that information for this Wednesday weather event could change. There are many variables to consider which could change the extent of weather threats and timing.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, our coverage areas are in an “Enhanced Risk Area,” which includes the following threats:

Tornadoes

Damaging winds up to 60 mph

Golf Ball size hail

There are portions of Alabama are in the “Slight Risk Area,” which includes the following threats:

Tornadoes possible

Damaging winds up to 60 mph

Quarter size hail

We encourage Alabamians to get prepared in advance. Now would be a great time to make sure you have various ways to receive weather information and alerts. Make sure they are not silenced. Know your safe place and work and at home. Understand where you are located in Alabama (know your county).
