On Tuesday, Oct. 19, the Southeastern Conference released its 2021-22 Southeastern Conference preseason media poll. These rankings came from a select panel of both SEC and national media members.

The Tide came in at tenth place in this poll after finishing in seventh place last season with an 8-8 conference record.

Even though the Tide loses it top three scorers from last season, head coach Kristy Curry and her squad look to prove themselves in arguably the best women’s basketball conference in the nation.

Curry spoke about the upcoming season with Peter Burns and Chris Doering on “SEC This Morning.”

“The future is incredibly bright,” said Curry. “We’re excited about our preseason schedule, our road schedule in the preseason and then how that’s going to impact us as we head into the SEC and open up with Tennessee on December 30th.”

South Carolina, the defending SEC Tournament Champions, got picked to win the SEC Tournament crown by the media. The Gamecocks are also ranked No. 1 in the overall Associated Press Preseason Poll. Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Kentucky round out the top four.

Preseason All-SEC Honorees are Rhyne Howard, Kentucky; Khayla Pointer, LSU; Shakira Austin, Ole Miss; Aaliyah Boston, South Carolina; and Zia Cooke, South Carolina. Howard was named the Preseason SEC player of the year by the media.

The Crimson Tide saw two players earn All-SEC postseason honors last season. Jasmine Walker earned First Team All-SEC and Jordan Lewis earned Second Team All-SEC.
