Alabama Women’s Basketball Dominates Exhibition Against UAH

The Alabama women's basketball team beat the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers 87-41 in an exhibition inside Coleman Coliseum, just five days prior to their season opener.

The Tide got off to a good start in the first quarter, scoring 26 points with a 52.6 field goal percentage (10-of-19)

on efforts from seven of its players and it made 40 % of its free throws. They went on a 16-point scoring streak after the second minute of the first quarter, the longest of the night, which started with senior guard Brittany Davis's layup.

They ended the game on an even stronger note, scoring 27 points with a FG percentage of 69.2 (9-of-13). Junior guard Nia Daniel, the Tide's leading scorer of the night with 19 points, was perfect in the final ten minutes perfect, going 3-of-3, two from long range.

Jada Rice, a graduate student center in her first year on the UA team, earned a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

The game was truly a team effort, however, as six Crimson Tide players got five or more rebounds on the night, five players scored double figures, and the bench accounted for nearly half of the score with 37 points.

Alabama Coach Kristy Curry was happy with her teams performance and effort against UAH in her postgame comments.

"But overall, I was pleased with how we came out in the second half and really rebounded the ball well. You know, to have four that have at least eight rebounds or more, and then another one with five. I thought we were able to get out in transition from, you know, the rebound."

Alabama's defense held the Chargers to just 10 points or less through the first three quarters and allowed the team to hold the lead for most of the game.

It ended the night with a FG percentage of 50, 31-of-62 from the field. The team shot 36% from long range, making 8-of-22. Senior guard Hannah Barber was 50% from long range, making 3-of-6 shots from behind the three-point line.

Curry only had one thing she hopes her team can improve on as they move into regular season play next week.

"To get to the free-throw line 29 times is always a positive. We've got to really improve that number though and convert percentage-wise."

The Crimson Tide shot 58.6% from the free-throw line, making 17-of-29 throughout the evening.

Alabama's women begin their regular season this coming Tuesday at home in Coleman Coliseum, taking on Charleston Southern at 5 p.m. This will be the first game of a doubleheader in Coleman with the men's basketball team and it will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
