Fast Moving Tropical Storm Elsa Update

Hurricane Season is here, and it is ramping up. Back in early May, I shared with you that we could see an ‘Above Average’ Hurricane Season for 2021. The Colorado State University is predicting 18 named storms for 2021.

Get ready for the bevy of Frozen and Elsa memes. Tropical Storm Elsa has formed east of the Lesser Antilles in the Atlantic. It is also churning up quickly and is predicted to move through the Caribbean over the weekend. I’m secretly excited about that because Frozen is one of my favorite Disney movies. I can’t wait to see what memes everyone posts.

What does this mean for the Alabama Gulf Coast, and the state of Alabama?

At this moment, it is way too early to know Tropical Storm Elsa’s true direction. There are tons of predictions, and the map looks like my four-year-old cousin went crazy with the crayons. The long-range tracking forecast includes Florida and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. At this moment, by Monday night Elsa will probably be near Key West, Florida.

We will gain more clarity on a potential track as Tropical Storm Elsa develops over the next few days. Even though our coverage range is well inland, we know first-hand the impacts that tropical systems can bring to our area. Also, the interruption it can cause on travel plans to the beautiful Alabama Coast.
