Alabama Football’s Jalen Hurts Selected as SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the 51-3 win over Mississippi State last Saturday, the league office announced on Monday.
Hurts accounted for 447 yards of total offense, throwing for a career-high 347 yards while adding 100 yards rushing to become the only quarterback in Alabama history to rush for 100-plus yards while passing for 300-plus yards. He accounted for five total touchdowns, throwing for four and rushing for one score, which tied the school record for total touchdowns in a game. The Channelview, Texas, native finished 28-of-37 with four touchdowns compared to one interception, while rushing 11 times for 100 yards and one score.
The Mississippi State game marked Hurts’ fourth time this season that the freshman quarterback has rushed for 100 or more yards while passing for at least 100 yards in the same contest. His 447 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs is the third-highest single-game total in school history, while his four touchdown passes was one shy of the Alabama single-game record of five set by Gary Hollingsworth at Ole Miss on Oct. 7, 1969.
The award is Hurts’ fourth from the league office this season. He was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week following the Tide’s win at Ole Miss, and was also chosen as the SEC Freshman of the Week after Tennessee and Co-Freshman of the Week for his game at Arkansas.
