The Alabama Crimson Tide starts spring practice on Friday to kick off the 2022 season. While most of the focus is on preparing to start practice on the right foot, Alabama is still in the process of adding talent to its roster.

Hewitt-Trussville class of 2022 quarterback Cade Ott Carruth took to Twitter to announce he is flipping his commitment from Mississippi State and be joining the Alabama Crimson Tide as a preferred walk-on.

Carruth joins Alabama as a legacy, following his uncle Paul Ott Carruth, who played running back for Alabama from 1981-84. He led his Hewitt-Trussville Huskies to a third place finish in the toughest region in Alabama high school football, 7A Region 3. His Huskies fell to Hoover in the second round of the AHSAA playoffs.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback passed for 1,891 yards and 16 touchdowns with three interceptions over 10 games for Hewitt-Trussville as a senior while also running for 103 yards and five touchdowns.

The Crimson Tide saw quarterbacks Paul Tyson and Stone Hollenbach enter the transfer portal after the season and Braxton Barker joined the Alabama coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Subsequently the Tide brought in 5-star quarterback Ty Simpson and now will add Carruth as well.
