Aaron Paul Switching From Meth to Whiskey for New Jack Daniel’s Drama
No, Jack Daniel’s isn’t getting in on the original content game, but they might as well be. WGN America has commissioned a new historical drama with Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul, following the life and times of the famed whiskey brand’s creator after the Civil War.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, current The Path star Paul will executive produce Blood and Whiskey, based on Peter Krass biography Blood and Whiskey: The Life and Times of Jack Daniel. The as-yet studio unattached new series will follow a “harrowing true tale of Jack Daniel, boy distiller, teenage moonshiner and the outlaw who built the world’s biggest whiskey empire out of the ashes of the Civil War.”
Mad Men and Turn: Washington’s Spies alum Andrew Colville will write the Blood and Whiskey script, executive producing with Paul, The Cartel’s Stan Spry and Jeff Holland, Fascination Street’s Drew Brown and Lucid Road Productions’ Zack Beckman. For its part, WGN has fairly even odds with original dramas, succeeding with Outsiders and Underground, but closing the door on its first two originals, Salem and Manhattan.
In the meantime, Paul can be seen on Season 2 of Hulu’s The Path (and maybe Better Call Saul?). Stay tuned for the latest on Blood and Whiskey as it arrives.
