As you enjoy your Thanksgiving feast, it may be tempting to share some with your four-legged best friend too! However, some Thanksgiving dishes can be very dangerous for dogs and cats.
Dr. Eva Evans, a veterinarian and writer for pet health insurance agency, shared with Pets Best 6 traditional Thanksgiving dishes you should avoid feeding to your pets.
- Stuffing: Common ingredients for stuffing include onions and garlic, which are extremely toxic for dogs and cats. Dr. Evans says it can cause can cause a life-threatening anemia (destruction of the red blood cells).
- Ham: Pork products can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and possibly pancreatitis.
- Mashed potatoes: The butter and milk ingredients may cause diarrhea. If your recipe includes onion powder or garlic, it can be very toxic.
- Turkey bones: If your pet gets past the choking risk, suffering severe indigestion is possible, as is vomiting. Besides, the bones can splinter and cause damage to the stomach and intestines.
- Salads with grapes or raisins: Keep your pets away from grapes, as they can be deadly. Dr. Evans says, grapes can cause severe, irreversible and sometimes fatal kidney failure in dogs.
- Chocolate: You probably already know, chocolate is very toxic for pets. They want a bite, but think twice or veterinarian visit could be in your holiday plans.
