53 Days Away from Bama Kickoff: Jimmy Carroll
Each day counting down to Alabama's Week 1 matchup with Utah State, I will highlight one former player whose jersey number coincides with the amount of days until the game. Today, let's take a look at one former Crimson Tide lineman that played a major role in the early days of Bear Bryant's dynasty, Jimmy Carroll.
Jimmy Carroll played for some of Paul Bryant's earliest teams, suiting up for the Crimson Tide from 1963-66 and playing a major role in two of the coach's national championship victories.
Born in Enterprise, AL, Carroll played both linebacker and center for his high school team, and was named an All-American as a senior.
In his freshman season with the Tide, the two-way player was moved full-time to center where he would start for two seasons and lead the Alabama offensive line.
Carroll was a part of three SEC Championship teams (1964-66) and two national title teams (1964-65) . In his time with the Tide, Alabama went 39-4-1, crushing nearly every opponent it came across.
