5-Star Corner Decommits From Southern Cal, Likely to Flip to Crimson Tide
The state of California's top player in the 2022 recruiting class, Domani Jackson announced via his social media accounts on Sunday that he would be decommitting from Southern California and re-opening his recruitment.
The announcement comes just a week after Jackson made an official visit to Tuscaloosa to take in the Alabama vs. LSU contest.
Jackson, a 5-star prospect out of Mater Dei High School, is considered the No. 2 cornerback in the nation and the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports evaluators.
The 6-foot-1 corner had been committed to Southern Cal since January of 2021 but decided to re-open his recruiting after seeing Tuscaloosa on a gameday.
“It’s just totally different from LA. I know LA can be like that but the Coliseum is barely packed. It’s like they don’t love football out here anymore. Bama is all day long, all morning long and the game atmosphere is crazy and they play against the top talent," Jackson told Rivals.
Four recruiting reporters for 247Sports flipped or set their Crystal Ball projections for Jackson to the Crimson Tide after his decommitment from the Trojans, it is now expected that he will make his decision on the early signing date of Dec. 15.
The Crimson Tide is no stranger to flipping Mater Dei prospects away from Southern Cal as sophomore quarterback Bryce Young spent some time committed to USC before settling on the Tide for his college football.
Redshirt junior linemen Tommy Brown also hails from Mater Dei High School, providing Jackson with two potential teammates to help him assimilate to Crimson Tide culture.
Nick Saban has assigned wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins and corners coach Jay Valai to Jackson as his primary recruiters.
He is evaluated as a speedy, yet physical corner that excels in press coverage but is also unafraid to provide defensive run support from his corner position. Ultimately his decision appears to be between the Crimson Tide, Southern Cal and the Michigan Wolverines.
