As Alabama gets set to participate in its first scrimmage of the spring, there are three areas that we all need to keep an eye on, not just tomorrow, but throughout all of spring practice.

    Quarterback Battle

After the illustrious career of AJ McCarron, who will step up and be the guy under center for the Crimson Tide? Former Florida State quarterback Jake Coker has transferred, but is not eligible to practice until the summer, so which quarterback on the current roster will separate himself and become the go-to guy until we get a chance to see what Coker can do? Blake Sims has been the #2 guy the past couple seasons, so he seems to be the leader at this point, but we can't forget about the young guns Alec Morris and David Cornwell, both of whom possess great arms and seem to understand the playbook.

Who Will be the Starting Cornerbacks?

The defensive secondary was definitely the weak point for the Crimson Tide last season, seemingly starting a new lineup each week, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the defensive backfield this spring. True freshman Tony Brown is a 5 star recruit who is fully capable of earning immediate playing time. Both Bradley Sylve and Eddie Jackson are guys who saw playing time last year, and now with some experience under their belts, they may be the guys we'll see most often out on the corners.

    What About the Special Teams?

The often overlooked unit may have the biggest shoes to fill this spring. With punter extraordinaire Cody Mandell graduating last year, finding a replacement for him will be a difficult task. Adrian Lamothe seems to be the guy to take his place, but it's nice to know that you have a punter who can flip the field in your favor whenever you need it. Also, Nick Saban has to find a place kicker to replace both Jeremy Shelley and kick-off specialist Cade Foster, and Adam Griffith seems to fit the bill. He'll forever (and unfairly) be known for the "Kick 6" in last year's Iron Bowl, but the kid is an excellent kicker, and we all should be anxious to see how well he does throughout the spring
