It's been 21 years since one of Alabama's most epic snowstorms. What do you remember about the Blizzard of '93?

I was still in elementary school, and I remember watching the forecasts that week with my parents and being SUPER PSYCHED about snow. We lived in Trussville (outside of Birmingham) at the time, and since it never snows in Alabama my two sisters and I were going crazy. We didn't understand the implications of a blizzard; we just knew it was going to snow, and SNOW WAS AWESOME.

It did snow. I stayed up that night and watched--it's the only time in my life I have ever seen thundersnow. The rest of my memories are a blur--we were without power for several days. We ate canned soup my mom warmed up on a kerosene heater borrowed from our next-door neighbors. My one-year-old baby brother had a snowsuit that made him look like Randy from "A Christmas Story." The snow came up to my little sister's waist. My dad shoveled snow for hours so we'd have enough space in the yard to move, to play, to have a snowball fight. My mom made us ice cream out of snow. We all fought over who got to have the first hot shower when the power came back on.

It's been more than two decades now. We've had a crazy winter this year, but even with the SnowPocalypse Traffic Deadlock of January 28, 2014--nothing as major as the Blizzard of 1993. What do you remember about the legendary snow storm?

I couldn't find any pics of us in the Blizzard of 1993, but I did find this pic of my baby bro and I on a roadtrip to Gatlinburg, TN a few weeks before.
