With the recent incidents of school shootings, most parents and area citizens have shown a great concern for the safety of children.

Tuesday, the Tuscaloosa City Schools and Mayor's office released information concerning an individual who expressed and interest in committing a violent act at an area school.

When dropping my daughter off at school this morning, I noticed an officer at the school.  I went back to the school at lunch time, and the police car was still there.  I'm not sure if it was the same officer, but it did appear to be.  But even if it wasn't, it was both comforting and alarming to see.

Usually, the sight of law enforcement will prevent a person intending to commit a crime from doing so. So, in that case, it was comforting.  The fact that this is almost a necessity is what's alarming.  The possibility of having innocent lives disrupted or taken for no reason other than one's self-gratification is real and in our communities.
