A man died last night after being apprehended by the Tuscaloosa Police Department.  TPD responded to a call at approximately 9:19 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015; TPD was notified that a wanted man was sitting on a front porch of a residence in the Crescent Ridge East Apartments off 49th Avenue E. When officers arrived, the man fled into the woods nearby, and TPD officers followed on foot. Officers were able to catch up to the suspect; however, TPD states the suspect resisted arrest and was subsequently subdued with pepper spray.

The suspect was handcuffed, and officers led him out of the woods. The suspect later collapsed while walking; TPD officers assessed the suspect and began CPR. The suspect was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center while medical emergency personnel continued CPR.

The suspect was pronounced dead at DCH at 10:42 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department stated that its Homicide Investigation Unit responded to the scene and, according to standard procedure, opened a death investigation.
