This B101.7 Flashback Friday spotlight congratulates new members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as we look at the defining album which quickly elevated them to rock stars!

Green Day is in the spotlight, who in their first year of eligibility were voted into the hall of fame. An amazing accomplishment, especially when you consider heavyweights of music like Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Bill Withers have been eligible for quite a bit longer.  Plus, there are many others still on the outside looking in.  I don't question it, rather it makes a bold statement on the significance of Green Day's contribution to music.

Things really took off for Billy Joe Armstrong and company with their major label debut in 1994, as they released the album Dookie. As noted by Wikipedia, it would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1995. To this day, Dookie there best selling album with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. Also, Rolling Stone magazine ranks it at #193 on the list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Dookie featured great songs like 'Longview,' 'Basket Case,' and the song being featured on B101.7 today, 'When I Come Around.' An interesting fact, it was third single off the album, but not released as a single. Song facts points out:

This song was not released as a single, which was a strategic move by Green Day's label (Reprise) to goose sales of the album. Airplay pushed the song to #6 in America.

Green Day has secured their place in music history with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony and concert took place this past spring, with HBO has been showing it. Green Day HDTV channel on YouTube has a couple of ceremony clips posted. They're blocked from being embedded into sites like this, otherwise I'd outright share. Just click here to get to them. Hey, I can pull the original music video for 'When I Come Around.' #Progress! #Success!
