Totally free COVID-19 tests are available while supplies last at a federally funded "mega surge" testing site that opened in Tuscaloosa Monday morning.

Tuscaloosa's test site, along with similar operations in Birmingham and Hoover, will test as many as 1,500 people each day regardless of their symptoms or level of exposure -- the idea is that anyone who wants to get tested can do so and at no personal cost.

Results are expected to be emailed to those tested within 3-5 days.

Tuscaloosa's site opened Monday at the Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Training and Logistics Center at 3311 Kauloosa Avenue. It will conduct tests from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day until next Friday, September 4th, as long as testing supplies last.

Birmingham's testing site is the Cathedral of the Cross on Center Point Parkway, and the Hoover site is in the Sears parking lot at the Galleria.
